At Blank Snowboards we have long-valued our environment! After all, so much of our love for snowboarding is being in nature, cutting fresh lines through deep powder, and taking in the riveting views. As such, it’s imperative that we preserve the forests and lands we live and ride in – so future riders can enjoy similar awe-inspiring moments for millennia to come.
That’s why we responsibly source the materials we use in our snowboards and offset our carbon footprint to not just be carbon neutral but actually carbon positive.
To be socially responsible and protect our forest, we need to minimize our ecological footprint – and not just by wearing smaller boots 😉
To lower the impact of our business, we responsibly source materials from companies who share the common goal of taking care of our planet – both the environment and its inhabitants.
For example, since our largest resource in our snowboards is the wood core – we only source our wood through Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests.
The FSC is a not-for-profit organization that sets standards for what a responsibly managed forest is, both environmentally and socially. In a nutshell, the FSC works to take care of our forests and those who rely on them by ensuring sustainable use of forests, protecting plant and animal species, protecting indigenous peoples’ rights, promoting fair trade, ensuring quality work environments, and much more. BTW, we’ve included a few videos on the bottom of this page if you want to learn more.
Of course, we can do more than just responsibly source our material. We can be carbon neutral… wait carbon negative. That’s right, carbon negative.
So what does carbon negative mean anyway? First, let’s talk about being carbon neutral. Carbon neutral is what many environmentally conscious businesses aim to be. Since carbon released through business operations can be harmful to our environment, a business will try to offset its emissions by investing in clean energy sources, planting trees, and so on. The goal is to net out the emissions of a business, so there is no impact on the environment. Here’s a link to a little more info on the effect of carbon on our planet: How Does Carbon Dioxide Affect the Environment.
At Blank, we know we can do better than the status quo which is why we go one step further to become carbon negative – meaning we offset our business and pick up some slack for other businesses too.
We were told growing up to leave places nicer than the way they were when we found them, and that’s just what we aim to do. Don’t we all kind of owe it to each other to take care of our planet this way? Just like it’s not cool to expect your roommate to do your dishes, it’s not cool to expect our global citizens to deal with our company’s “dirty dishes “– so to speak.
Thus – we offset our carbon footprint by purchasing “carbon offsets”, so net after manufacturing a Blank Snowboard our planet is made better. For each snowboard purchased, we purchase an offset for more than 100 pounds through places such as StandForTrees.org and COOL2 Effect where we choose to support the issues that are most important to us.
By the way, if you have a project that is dear to you – let us know. We’d love to partner on a great cause.
